Back to School Now for Wie

The 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship is over, and it was a successful one for Michelle Wie. Despite some final-round stumbles, Wie finished in sixth place. It was her first Top 10 in a major since 2006 (hard to believe, right?).

What now for Wie? Back to school. Wie's school schedule the past several years (according to this article) has been to attend Stanford for the fall and winter semesters, then take the spring and summer semesters off to focus on golf.

But Michelle really wants to graduate next March. In order to do that, she's staying at Stanford for the spring semester this year. In fact, the Monday morning after the Kraft Nabisco ended, Wie was back in class.

How that will affect her LPGA schedule remains to be seen. It's possible that Wie will have to skip an additional tournament or two in 2011.

The LPGA's next tournament is April 28-May 1, the Avent Classic in Alabama.

Nike Golf posted this pic on Twitter:

These are the custom-made shoes that Nike did specifically for Michelle Wie to wear during the Kraft Nabisco Championship. (Red is apparently a color we'll be seeing a lot of during the 2011 KNC.)

Michelle Wie Back in Top 10

Michelle Wie has had a pretty good start to her 2011 season, and she's back in the Top 10 in the Women's World Rankings because of it. In the Rolex Rankings released on Monday, March 28, Wie stands at No. 9, moving up from two from last week and leapfrogging Paula Creamer.

Wie has two Top 10s in three starts so far in 2011, including a runner-up at her season opener in Thailand. And last week she was tied for seventh at the Kia Classic. (In-between was a finish of 40th at the HSBC Women's Champions.)

Due to her school schedule, Michelle Wie not playing the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup tournament in Phoenix. On her Twitter page (@themichellewie), Wie posted a series of tweets explaining and expressing regret at not being there:

"Really sad I can't play at the founders this week, but I'm gonna take this week to take finals and get my game ready for kia!

"Definately gonna try to play in the founders next year cuz ill be done with school by next march!

"Sometimes my school schedule doesn't allow me to play certain tournaments but getting my stanford degree has always been a big goal of mine

"So even though school and golf gets hard...I'm positive its all gonna be worth it in the end :)"

HSBC Champions Wrapup

Not the best of showings for Michelle Wie at the 2011 HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore: She finished tied for 40th in a field of 63. That's a disappointing showing following her second-place in the season opener.

Wie was solid in her first two rounds, shooting 73-71 which was good for just outside the Top 10 and within shouting distance of the lead.

Then came a third-round 77 that took her out of the equation, and that was followed with a final-round 75. Her 296 total was 8-over par.

Alas, no stats (fairways hit, putts, etc.) are available for this event on LPGA.com, so we can't get a good sense of what went wrong.

Midway Report: HSBC Champions

After the second round of the 2011 HSBC Champions in Singapore, Michelle Wie was tied for 12th at even-par 144. Her scores were 71 and 71. That's 10 strokes behind the leader, Chie Arimura, but only three golfers are below 140 so Wie is right among the chase pack.
