Hana Bank Grouping, Tee Time

The LPGA Hana Bank Championship takes place Oct. 29-31 in Korea. Where it's about 50 degrees cooler than it was last week in Malaysia.

Michelle Wie's first-round tee time (local time) is 10:40 a.m. (last grouping off). She's playing with Cristie Kerr and Jiyai Shin. Whoever shoots the best round among those three should be in very good position amongst the field at large.

Wie Middle of the Pack in Malaysia

Michelle Wie finished the 2010 Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament in the middle of the pack, 32nd in a field of 60. That's a bit of a disappointment after the excellent start she got off to, shooting 68 in the first round and standing tied for fourth at that point. But Wie tailed off after that, following with back-to-back 74s.

It was a brutally hot weekend in Kuala Lumpur, and we all know Michelle doesn't have the best history in the heat ...

Wie is playing this week's LPGA Hana Bank Championship, and it will be much cooler in Korea.

Michelle Wie, along with fellow LPGA Tour pros Cristie Kerr and Natalie Gulbis, visited the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, on Tuesday to learn more about the Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF), the selected charity of the tournament. All three are playing in the inaugural Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament this week.

The special visit to CARIF saw the players and VIPs learn more about breast cancer research during a presentation by Prof. Dr Teo Soo-Hwang, Chief Executive, CARIF. Prof Teo presented data showing that breast cancer is the most common cancer in Malaysia and sadly, although survival rate for breast cancer is already more than 80% in the USA, survival rate in some communities in Malaysia is only 50%. Funds raised through the Sime LPGA event will be used for collaborative research between CARIF and University Malaya to improve the outcome for breast cancer patients in Malaysia and to reduce disparities in cancer treatment and care.

"This visit has been an eye-opener for me and I would like to thank everyone involved in organizing it," Wie said. "I have heard about cancer research and am aware that there are treatment methods to help people with breast cancer but the visit today has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding into what doctors and people are really trying to do to find a cure and how they help their patients. We will definitely look to do our bit to raise funds and grow support for CARIF this week at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia."

The highlight of the visit saw the players and the VIPs participate in a ceremony to unveil a purple lilac ribbon which represents all cancers and general cancer awareness, on the side building wall of the Sime Darby Cancer Centre.
